In a recent interview, Rohan Marley reflected on his father's legacy, his own path into entrepreneurship, and the values that continue to shape his life.
A Life Built on His Own Terms
Rohan Marley, Recently opened up in a wide-ranging interview about his upbringing, his athletic career and the business empire he's built independently of his father's musical legacy.
Raised in Kingston, Jamaica, Rohan credits those early years with shaping his character through the Rastafari values his father lived by. That grounding later carried him to the University of Miami on a football scholarship, where he played alongside future NFL Hall of Famers, and eventually into professional football in Canada and professional soccer in Jamaica's top league.
From Athlete to Independent Entrepreneur
Rather than settle into one path, Rohan pivoted more than once — a pattern that speaks to both his discipline and his willingness to chart his own course. After stepping away from professional sports, he built a business portfolio entirely his own: Tuff Gong Clothing, Marley Coffee, the RoMarley Beach House and, most recently, his cannabis company, Lion Order.
Notably, Rohan is the only one of Bob Marley's children who didn't pursue music full-time, choosing instead to build his identity through business. Reflecting on his father's influence, he described carrying that legacy not as a weight, but as a guiding principle — a lesson and a way of life he chooses to embrace.
Passing the Torch, His Own Way
Even as his son YG Marley continues the family's musical legacy — recently landing his first Billboard Hot 100 entry — Rohan remains firmly rooted in the business side of the Marley name. It's a distinction that underscores his broader story: someone deeply devoted to his family and heritage, yet determined to define success on his own terms.
At the end of the day, Rohan Marley reads less like someone living in a famous father's shadow and more like a man who took that shadow, turned it into sunlight, and built his own empire under it. Football fields, boardrooms, coffee farms, cannabis brands — the settings change, but the same restless, magnetic energy shows up in all of them. That's the kind of charisma that isn't manufactured for a headline; it's the product of a man who's spent his whole life choosing his own next move, and somehow always landing on his feet.
